An Oldenburg couple were arrested by Batesville police in connection with a theft April 14, according to Chief Stan Holt.
Around 12:20 p.m., workers at the Batesville Wastewater Treatment Plant observed a male and female stealing scrap metal from behind the property fence at the plant. When one of the workers approached the couple, they fled in their vehicle.
The worker notified police and followed the suspects, who were subsequently apprehended in the parking lot of the New Point Hotel. The stolen items were recovered from the suspects' vehicle.
The driver was identified as Sarah Harrison, 24, and the passenger was Omar Richardson, 23. A 3 year-old child in the vehicle was released to a family member.
The suspects were incarcerated at the Franklin County Security Center on preliminary charges of theft, a Class D felony. Harrison may also face charges of neglect of a dependent, a Class D felony.
