Indiana State Police troopers went to Canterbury House Apartments Sept. 6 on a tip that Kayla McGovern, 20, Milan, who was wanted in Jefferson County on a warrant for possession of cocaine and theft, was in a specific apartment, reports Sgt. Noel Houze, ISP Versailles District public information officer.
When officers arrived at the apartment, an occupant said McGovern had just left and was on her way to Oldenburg in a black 2003 Ford Focus. Officers searched the area and located the vehicle near Arlington Avenue and State Road 229. Trooper Kyle Stovall initiated a traffic stop and was assisted by several other troopers.
McGovern was a passenger in the vehicle. During the course of the investigation, the driver, Vanessa Erfmeier, 20, Batesville, was found to be in possession of drugs and marijuana.
Both were taken into custody without incident. McGovern was transported to Jefferson County to be held on the warrant. Erfmeier was transported to the Franklin County Security Center and stands charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, Class D felonies; and possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor.
