A Liberty man was killed in a single-car crash Oct. 31, said Franklin County Sheriff's Department Deputy Gregory Mehlbauer, the investigating officer.
William Ringle, 60, was driving a 2009 Hyundai Accent northbound on State Road 1 at about 9:29 p.m. When he was south of Goblers Knob Road, the vehicle started down a grade and into an eastward curve. Mehlbauer noted, "Due to a speed too fast for the wet roadway, the vehicle began to rotate and travel off the right side." It struck a guardrail face, which caused a large indention. The Hyundai maintained a northbound momentum, continuing to rotate and hit the guardrail, finally coming to rest facing north against it.
Ringle and his wife, Gerry Ringle, who were not wearing seatbelts, were entrapped and sustained severe injuries to their heads and necks, according to the deputy. Both were transported to the Harrison, Ohio, PAC Center. The driver was later taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he died.
Assisting at the scene were the Cedar Grove and St. Leon volunteer fire departments, Harrison Fire/EMS, Brookville EMS 2 and Rescue 24.
