On April 7, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Franklin County Coroner’s Office, Indiana Conservation Officers and Indiana State Police investigated the discovery of human skeletal remains off Big Cedar Road near Cedar Grove.
“Those skeletal remains have been identified as those of 21-year-old Katelyn Markham of Fairfield, Ohio,” reported ISP Sgt. Noel Houze, Versailles District public information officer.
Markham was reported as a missing person to Fairfield police Aug. 14, 2011.
Houze explained, “The Fairfield Police Department and Indiana State Police are working in concert to conduct an investigation into the death of Miss Markham.”
Anyone who may have information regarding her death is urged to call ISP at 812-689-5000, FPD at 513-867-6094 or Crime Stoppers at 888-352-3040 or 513-352-3040.
He added, “This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be released by the Indiana State Police as it is made available.”
Persons walking along Big Cedar Creek discovered the remains near the creek’s edge Sunday at about 11 a.m., Houze said Monday.
“Investigators were at the scene most of the day yesterday searching the area for other clues.”
The remains were taken to the Hamilton County (Ohio) Coroner’s Office April 8 for DNA and other forensic testing.
