State Representative Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville) is pleased to announce the opening of the 16th annual National Foundation for Women Legislators and the National Rifle Association (NFWL/NRA) Bill of Rights Scholarship Contest.
Female high school juniors and seniors have the opportunity to enter the scholarship contest, and six winners will receive a $3,000 college scholarship along with an all-expense-paid trip to the NFWL Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. The Conference will be November 20-22 at the Ritz-Carlton.
Each applicant must be sponsored by a female legislator from their state and, if chosen as a scholarship winner, will be accompanied to the NFWL Annual Conference by that sponsor.
“The questions posed in this contest should prompt these young women to think critically about issues directly affecting their generation,” Rep. Ziemke said. “I am more than willing to sponsor any eligible applicant, and I encourage teachers to make their students aware of this fantastic opportunity.”
Applicants may choose from two essay topics, and their answers will be judged by the Scholarship Committee on basic grammar and punctuation as well as historical research, insight and perspective, demonstrated understanding of the American Constitution and Bill of Rights as a whole, inspirational quality and meaningful personal connection.
Application requirements include: completed Essay Contest Verification Form (with a copy sent in advance); two (2) copies of your essay; two (2) personal reference letters; the name of applicant’s sponsoring female state legislator.
The application deadline is September 15, 2013. To access the application, visit http://www.womenlegislators.org/events/scholarship-program.php.
