Bullying prevention explored Thursday

— Jerry Ackerman, Indianapolis, an international speaker on bullying prevention, will address the issues of bullying and positive parenting Thursday, April 11, from 6-7 p.m. in the South Dearborn Middle School gym, 5850 Squire Place/State Road 350, Aurora.

The presentation by the former teacher and author of six books will touch on what bullying is and is not, current apps parents should have and know for their children, why bullying is getting worse and the importance of face time with kids.

Prevent Child Abuse of Dearborn and Ohio Counties coordinator Suzzi Romines points out, “Bullying can have lifelong effects on the lives of children, including social, educational and health setbacks, possible drug and alcohol addiction, and other mental health and safety concerns. This is an important educational night, not only for parents and students, but teachers, organizations and the business and faith communities as well.”

Attendees will receive information to take home. A Wal-Mart gift card and other door prizes will be drawn.

The program is presented by PCADOC in partnership with Prevent Child Abuse of Ripley County and funded by a small grant, reports Romines.

Ackerman’s workshop (JerryAckerman.net) coincides with three in-school presentations he will make to middle and high school students in Ohio County, South Dearborn and South Ripley schools.  Bullying prevention explored Thursday
