Brookville Third Friday has baseball theme

— “Take Me out to the Ball Game” is the theme of the Brookville Third Friday event slated for May 17.

An Emergency Medical Services memorial service with the Indianapolis Honor Guard takes place at 5:30 p.m. on the courthouse lawn.

Activities continue at 6 p.m. there with a Home Run Derby and Fast Pitch Contest. The garden club is hosting a plant sale on the courthouse steps.

Music will keep area residents entertained. The Shawnee Dulcimer Society will play at the Pocket Park beside Franklin County Community Foundation office, 527 Main St. Jazz singer Toni Deckers will appear downtown and The Baggy Bottom Boys will entertain on The Gift Shoppe on Main’s porch.

Mi-Ladies will have an open house and ribbon cutting starting at 6:15 p.m.

At the Brookville Tire Mart, Franklin County Relay for Life leaders have organized a Jack’s Pets Bark for Life animal parade, pet costume contest, kids’ games and bake sale.

“What goes better with baseball, Cracker Jack and hot dogs than nice cold beer?” suggests Mikel Beck, Franklin County Convention, Recreation and Visitors Commission business relations specialist, who reports Tebbe Liquors will offer free beer tastings.

Persons who want photos and autographs from the Cincinnati Reds mascot, Mr. Redlegs, will find him walking the sidewalk in front of the Franklin County Welcome Center, 813 Main St.

Brookville Main Street and Jackie Brown photo contest winners can be viewed at the library.

Attendees also may visit the annual quilt show sponsored by the Franklin County Extension Homemakers and Quilt Batts until 8 p.m. at the former Brookville High School gym, 1010 Franklin Ave. Show admission is $5.

Hungry attendees have many options. Eric J. Biehl Memorial leaders will grill hamburgers. The Franklin County Recreational Baseball League will sell hot dogs and water by the new Brookville lodge. Four businesses have enticing menus or specials: Jeannie Dogs, Pioneer Restaurant, Snappy’s Tomato Pizza and Korner’s Christmas.

Even pets will be satisfied after visiting the Doggylicious Treats booth.

Brookville Third Friday questions can be answered by Beck at 765-647-6522.
