The City of Batesville Parks department will be holding a public input meeting to discuss the proposed phase 2 trail project, according to Mike Baumer.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 25, starting at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers on the second floor of the Memorial Building.
The proposed trail will be an extension of “Liberty Trail” and will be a 10’ wide asphalt trail very similar to the existing trail, according to Baumer. The proposed trail will start on Deleware Road, where Liberty Trail ends, and pass through the soccer and baseball/softball complex. The approximately one-mile loop will run past the existing soccer handicap parking area, where access can be gained to the trail. The trail will run on the far outside property of the soccer complex, then cross the existing access road, off of Coonhunter’s Road that leads to the Plex. The trail will continue around fields No. 1,2,and 3, and around the infield area of field No.5. It will then connect to the Plex parking lot off of Deleware Road, and continue back to where it started, Baumer added.
“The parks department welcomes any and all input on the proposed trail at this meeting,” Baumer commented. “80 percent of the funding for the proposed trail would come from a grant submitted through the IDNR.
“If the grant is secured, the earliest construction would begin is the fall of 2014,” he added.
