A two-vehicle accident Oct. 3 sent three to the hospital, two with serious injuries, reports Ripley County Sheriff Tom Grills.
During the early morning hours, Ripley County Communications received a call about an accident near State Road 350 and County Road 800 East, Milan. When emergency personnel arrived, Dylan Swain, 19, Aurora, was trapped inside the passenger car he was driving.
His vehicle had been traveling southbound on C.R. 800 East when for unknown reasons it entered the path of oncoming traffic. James Ashcraft, 50, Milan was traveling westbound on S.R. 350, and his SUV struck the driver’s side door of Swain's car.
Ashcraft was transported via ambulance to Dearborn County Hospital and later transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for his injuries.
Swain had to be extracted from his vehicle. He was transported via ambulance to Margaret Mary Health and later to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for potential life threatening injuries.
Kori Ranshaw, 19, Moores Hill, who is six months pregnant, was a passenger in Swain's vehicle. She had minor injuries and was also transported by ambulance to Margaret Mary Health.
All occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
This accident remains under investigation. The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Milan Police Department, Indiana State Police, Milan Volunteer Fire Department, Ripley County Paramedics, Milan Rescue 30 and Sunman Rescue 20.
