INDOT preparing for ice and snow

BATESVILLE —

News release from the Indiana Department of Transportation ...

The Indiana Department of Transportation/Seymour District is strategizing its operational response to a challenging winter storm that promises icy road conditions in southern Indiana with fast falling snow accumulating along highways and interstates in central and northern areas.

INDOT alerts motorists to icy conditions later today in Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Switzerland, Ohio, Jefferson, Scott and Washington Counties—with ice transitioning to snow in southern portions of Monroe, Brown, Jackson, Jennings, Bartholomew, Dearborn and Ripley Counties.  Forecasts for the Seymour District predict intense snowfall through the night in Dearborn, Ripley, Decatur, Bartholomew, Brown, Monroe, Morgan and Johnson Counties.

State highways and interstates in southeast Indiana have been pre-treated with brine.  A full callout for Seymour subdistricts at Falls City/Sellersburg, Madison, Aurora, Columbus and Bloomington is scheduled between mid and late afternoon.  In addition to INDOT salt/plow trucks, crew cabs with plow blades are being dispatched to rest areas and weigh scale locations as well as some interstate highway ramps to assist with clearing.

Motorists should monitor changing road and weather conditions.  Localized road closures and county travel advisories are possible—depending on traffic and severity of the weather.  Follow INDOT social media at: www.Facebook.com/INDOTSoutheast or Twitter @INDOTSoutheast.  Verify travel plans at TrafficWise: http://www.trafficwise.in.gov.
