Ripley County Communications received a report of a female not answering her door due to an unknown problem Sunday, Jan. 26, at about 7:42 a.m. The call came from the landlord at an Elrod residence, according to a Ripley County Sheriff's Office news release.
Emergency services personnel responded, and upon their arrival were unable to gain immediate access into the apartment. Entry was made after Cpl. Rob Bradley arrived to assist.
Hannah Walker was found inside the apartment deceased. The 37-year-old recently moved to Elrod from Cincinnati.
Bradley, Detective Abe Hildebrand and Deputy Jason Dickerson are conducting the investigation with Ripley County Deputy Coroner Matt Wright. They were assisted at the scene by Milan Rescue 30.
"Evidence collected at the scene suggests that drug use was involved," said Bradley. The cause of death is unknown at this time. Results will be released pending return of the coroner's report, which could take up to several weeks.
