-- — Around 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 7, an individual jogging along State Road 46 west of Spades Road just west of Penntown noticed a vehicle had apparently crashed into a deep ditch on the road’s north side, said Sgt. Noel Houze, Indiana State Police Versailles District public information officer.
When ISP troopers arrived, they discovered the 2008 Toyota Corolla had left the road on westbound S.R. 46 and went through some trees into the ditch, where it crashed head-on into a culvert.
The driver, Kristen Duncan, 48, Batesville, was still in the vehicle and was deceased. She was not wearing a seat belt. According to Houze, “investigators believe she ran off the roadway, for undetermined reasons, around 11 p.m.” Sunday. A nearby resident told investigators they heard a noise at around that time, but thought it was just fireworks.
The crash is being investigated by Trooper Clifton Elston, who is being assisted by Senior Trooper Jason Hankins. Also assisting at the scene were Indiana Conservation Officers, Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Sunman Rural Fire Department, Sunman Area Life Squad, Ripley County Medic and Ripley County Coroner’s Office.
