---- — Three area fire departments responded to a structure fire at 24130 Weisburg Road, Sunman, Aug. 2, reported Sunman Rural Fire Department Chief Bill Craig.
"We got the call about 7:02 a.m. and were on scene at 7:13 a.m. We were there pretty quick, but it (the blaze) got a pretty good start on us .... The fire had vented through the roof, and the roof was starting to collapse. We contacted Morris Volunteer Fire Department for its rapid intervention team. St. Leon was called for a tanker and Rescue 20 (Sunman Area Life Squad) for rehab.
"The home was uninhabited, but was being renovated by the owner," David Lykins. Craig thought an uncle reported the fire because he noticed it when he showed up to work on the structure that morning.
About 21 firefighters responded and were able to save the attached garage. "The fire is still under investigation because we don't have a cause yet," the chief noted.
SRFD members were also busy earlier in the week. "In three days, we had three structure fires. One was down on North County Line Road in Franklin Township. A furnace was malfunctioning, but the house didn't catch fire.
"The other was on Yorkridge Road in Kelso Township. A guy was using a 40-by-60 pole barn to stain and varnish trim. The fire started in a stack of trim boards, but we completely saved that building because we pretty much contained it, but there was a lot of smoke damage."
