A traffic stop July 26 led to the arrest of two Batesville men, according to Batesville Police Chief Stan Holt.
About 2:30 p.m., Cpl. Dave Abel stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation on Hillenbrand Avenue. Abel suspected the occupants may have been in possession of drugs so he called for Sgt. Danny Hamilton and his K-9 partner Jinx.
The dog alerted on the vehicle, and a search revealed a hypodermic needle and drug paraphernalia.
The driver, Taylor Jones, 18, was arrested for possession of a hypodermic syringe, a Class D felony. The passenger, Carmeron Mains, 22, was arrested for reckless possession of paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor. Both were incarcerated at the Ripley County Jail.
Two injured in crash
Two were hurt in an accident July 21 at about 9:40 p.m. on U.S. 52, reports Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Greg Mehlbauer.
An eastbound vehicle driven by Rufus McCabe, Yahtahey, N.M., “was travelling too fast to negotiate a curve and drove off” the road’s right side, then struck a series of trees.
