---- — After showing some improvement during second quarter inspections, a Ripley County restaurant still has quite a few items to work on, as shown during more recent surprise Ripley County retail food establishment inspections.
From July 10-Sept. 26, the Old Brick Tavern, Sunman, had 13 critical and three noncritical violations. Noncritical items included front and rear doors needing to be sealed to prevent rodents and insects from entering.
Other county establishments also had critical issues, many dealing with inadequate temperatures, uncovered drinks in food prep areas and dirty ice machines.
The findings for Batesville establishments included Gallery Cafe, Casa Mexicana, Schmidt Bakery, AUM Petroleum and Hillcrest Golf & Country Club, one.
Other reports: Browning Camp Restaurant, Dillsboro, four; Hog Rock Cafe, Milan, and Cash Saver Market, Versailles, three; Sunman IGA and Subway of Versailles, two; Sunman American Legion Post 337 and Tiers & Cheers, Sunman, Osgood Grub Co., Jay C Store and Red Barn Restaurant, Osgood, and Ernie’s Pizza and Pollard’s Bowl & Po’s Pub, Versailles, one.
Those establishments receiving only noncritical violations were The Reservation, Milan, and Whistle Stop Cafe, Osgood, three; Southeastern Career Center, Versailles, and Hometown Grill, Milan, two; and Langen Meats, Lil’ Charlie’s Restaurant & Brewery and Randy’s Roadhouse, Batesville, Jac-Cen-Del High School, Osgood, and Hong Dragon, Gold Star Chili, Pizza Hut and Country Creations, Versailles, one.
In addition, 27 had no violations: Batesville Intermediate School, Batesville Middle School, St. Louis School, Batesville Commissary, Harmeyer’s Market, Pizza Haus, Batesville LaRosa’s, Sherman House and Ertel Cellars Winery, Batesville; Frank & Joann’s Bar, Holton; Milan Elementary School, Milan High School, Indian Trail BP and Jay C Store, Milan; Boehner’s Market, Napoleon; American Legion Post 267, Trackside Pizza and Jac-Cen-Del Elementary School, Osgood; Sunman Elementary School, St. Nicholas School and Exxon Tiger Mart, Sunman; and South Ripley Elementary School, South Ripley High School, Ripley County Jail, McDonald’s, Rolling Pin, Inc. and Crossroads Family Restaurant, Versailles.
Ripley County Health Department employees inspect retail food establishments on a regular basis. Most are surprise, routine visits a few times a year. However, if follow-up visits are necessary, they are checked more often.
The establishments in this article were inspected between July 10-Sept. 25. Some may have been inspected since then, in the most recent quarter, and may have corrected some of the violations. That information will be included in a future article.
Persons can view the specifics of these reports at the RCHD office, Versailles. They are available 10 days after the inspection dates.
