Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of Thomas Herring, 19, Sunman, according to Angela Goldman, Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division spokesperson.
The teen’s mother noticed him missing April 30 around 2 p.m. and began looking for him. When he was not in the house, she looked in the woods behind the home. His father located his son's clothing beside a neighbor’s pond where it appeared he went swimming.
ICO divers located Herring's body in about 8 feet of water, 10 yards from a small fishing pier in the pond at 7 p.m. The teen was not a strong swimmer. It is unclear why he decided to enter the water.
The Sunman Police Department, Ripley County Sheriff's Office, Ripley County EMS and Sunman Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
