An early morning armed robbery April 22 at K & K Mini Mart, 332 S. Meridian St., Sunman, is being investigated, according to a press release from the Ripley County Sheriff's Office.
About 6 a.m., a male subject entered the store armed with a long gun, a station attendant said. The subject went behind the counter and demanded cash from the register. He obtained an unknown amount of money before leaving the business on foot.
The unidentified white male was wearing a gray hoodie, green/white plaid shorts and white shoes. He had his face covered.
Sunman Elementary School was put on a soft lockdown, meaning the daily routine went on as usual, but everyone stayed inside, reported Sheriff Rodney Stratton.
St. Nicholas School, Sunman, was also locked down until 11 a.m. that day, said principal Sister Carol Ann Mause. As a precaution, she had the students stay inside for recess. In addition, parents were told of the incident through the school's notification system.
Deputy Jason Dickerson was the investigating officer, and he was assisted at the scene by Indiana State Police K-9 units.
