— In a race that some predicted would be close, Republican Steven Cox, Brookville, appears to have comfortably retained his Franklin County Circuit Court Division 1 judge seat in the Nov. 6 general election.
With 22 of 23 precincts reporting – Brookville 2 results were not expected until Nov. 7 due to a broken memory card – Cox defeated Democrat Tammy Davis, Brookville, with 57.38 percent of the votes (5,663-4,207).
At 8:20 p.m. in his office on the courthouse’s second floor, the incumbent was feeling “tired, but confident” before the night’s final results arrived at 10:12 p.m.
When asked about this campaign’s challenge, Cox maintained, “The No. 1 challenge ... was correcting the inaccurate information disseminated by my opponent.” The three-term judge said he and his workers strived to make sure “our campaign was factual. It’s not challenging to tell the truth.”
