On 12-12-12 (Dec. 12, 2012), Ripley County Community Foundation officials are giving persons a unique opportunity to stretch their donation dollars to its endowments.
“When we realized we had to move” to a new location in the RomWeber building – they are still at 4 S. Park Ave., but are now in a different office location, Suite 210 – “we thought it would be nice to have a little open house and invite people to see our space,” reports Sally Morris, RCCF executive director.
Even though donations are welcome at any time, “we are encouraging them at the end of the year into all our different endowment funds because the more increase there is, the more the distribution is to help the nonprofits they are designated to.”
She believes one of the best ways to increase the giving is through a match program. “We thought it would be fun to combine 12-12-12 with a 50 percent match for any donation into the 120 existing endowment funds.”
Donations of any amount up to $10,000 made through Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. will be matched with a maximum of $5,000. No amount is too small. “It could be a $10 donation, and we would put $5 in there.”
The matching dollars will come from “our Unrestricted Fund, where our granting comes from ... and it all goes to something charitable.”
She points out, “We would really like to support those donors who have originated endowments with us and to encourage others to donate to their funds so they have a better return next year.
“With the economy the way it is, there are so many needs in our society. All of our endowments benefit a charitable organization, church or school, and this is a way to support those charities.”
Morris stresses, “The foundation board and staff appreciate all the support during the year and the help it is giving to our communities.”
• The RCCF will hold an open house Wednesday, Dec. 12, from noon-6 p.m.
• Persons can mail a check, walk in or call 877-234-5220 with credit card information on or before that date. “The money just has to be in our hands by 6 p.m. that day,” Morris notes.
