The Batesville Police Department arrested a local man on multiple drug charges Thursday night, reported Chief Stan Holt.
Officer Blake Roope initiated a traffic stop for a minor traffic violation at about 10 p.m. on State Road 46 near Merkel Road. Officers observed drug paraphernalia in plain view, which lead to a vehicle search.
“The search revealed various prescription pills, marijuana, hypodermic needles, drug paraphernalia and a loaded 9-mm handgun,” Holt said.
The driver, Mathew Wissel, 49, Batesville, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a syringe, Class D felonies; and possession of marijuana, reckless possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a handgun without a license, Class A misdemeanors.
Wissel was incarcerated at the Ripley County Jail, Versailles.
Roope was assisted on the stop by Sgt. Danny Hamilton and Officer Mike Manus.
The chief reminded, “All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
