Sunman council hears report on park

Sunman Town Council members received the 2013 Sunman Community Park report at their Dec. 19 meeting.

In the document, President Janice Hosmer revealed, “Family reunions and holiday family get-togethers top the rental list this year, as in previous years. The ball fields were again busy in the summer months, and annual local festivals always fill the park.”

There were 57 rentals, which is down from last year. This does not include meetings for various nonprofit and 4-H clubs or the Hoosier Hoedowners weekly practices.

“The park was the location for the firemen’s festival, Easter egg hunt and breakfast, chamber of commerce events, continuing education (courses) for Purdue, wine fest and softball tournaments,” she reported.

The president said survey sheets were included in each rental contract this year. “We use ... (them) as feedback so the consumers can suggest improvements, vent any problems or just give comments on the park.” One is drawn from those returned each year, and that person receives a free rental next time. “We get some good feedback with these sheets and feel the free rental is well worth the effort.”

Over the next two years, members hope to make improvements and additions to the park, including upgrading the outdoor bathrooms and adding a paved walking path, more park benches/resting areas, water play area and more playground equipment. These items were suggestions from the 2011 survey.

“We would like to thank the awesome Sunman employees for all the work they have done again this past year, including clearing downed trees and putting up the Christmas lights. Thanks also to the beautification committee for keeping the flower pots filled and weeded,” Hosmer noted.
