Cindy Tarvin, who resides at 328 S. Meridian St., Sunman, asked town council members Nov. 19 for permission to move her mobile home to another location.
She currently lives in Trees Mobile Home Park, but said, “I have a chance to buy a lot at 115 Vine St. .... (Ripley County) planning and zoning didn’t have any problems as long as I move the old ... (trailer) out and put footers in” before placing the structure there.
“It has been my understanding that you can’t move a new one in there,” commented member John Campbell.
In addition, “I think the position of the board has always been that the mobile homes belong in the mobile home park and not in other parts of town.”
Street and park manager Dan Eckstein revealed that he looked through some of the ordinances, but “I can’t find any that say you can’t put a mobile home somewhere other than a mobile home park.”
Campbell told Tarvin, “Nothing against you, but in the past, we’ve had trouble with mobile homes being moved in and not being taken care of, and I think the citizens are concerned about it.”
Members decided to look over the ordinances and respond to her at the Dec. 17 meeting.
