Family injured in I-74 crash
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle accident near Sunman Nov. 16, according to Deputy Abe Hillenbrand. About 1:53 a.m. Alvin Kimbrell, 62, Tennessee, was traveling east on I-74 with his family when he lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road.
“At some point during the crash, an 8-year-old passenger was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries,” the deputy reported. The child was transported to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center by University of Cincinnati Air Care.
Kimbrell and other passengers were transported to Margaret Mary Community Hospital, where they were treated and released.
“The road surface condition was a contributing factor of the crash,” and the accident is still under investigation.
Sunman Rural Fire Department, Sunman EMS 20, Batesville EMS 10, Rescue 69, Ripley County Medic Service, Sunman and Batesville police departments and Indiana State Police also assisted at the scene.
