Ripley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary that happened Sept. 22 around 2:30 p.m. on North State Road 129, just south of Batesville, according to Sheriff Tom Grills.
An unknown male made entry through a garage service door by kicking it in. Serious damage occurred since the door was heavily secured.
While the suspect was inside the home, nothing was disturbed except the area in which he was looking for items of value. It is believed that he was startled when the homeowner arrived back at the residence.
The suspect exited the home, unbeknown to the owner, and spoke to the owner about completing some landscaping. After he left, the homeowner realized the incident had taken place and attempted to locate the suspect.
He caught up to the male suspect, who was northbound on S.R. 129, and obtained a partial description of his vehicle, which is described as an Arizona beige Ford F-150 extended cab pickup with a partial Ohio registration of DK 3697. It is believed to be a late 90s or early 2000 model.
The suspect is described as a male in his early 20s, with sandy blonde hair and facial hair. He is about 5’10 and has a thin build.
A large amount of evidence was collected, but it is unclear if the suspect removed property from the residence.
"Citizens are urged to look out for their neighbors, lock everything and pay attention to suspicious activity. Document all your valuables and keep that record in a secure place. Nobody is immune from becoming a victim," Grills noted.
