Local law enforcement officers are investigating a robbery at The Brau Haus, Oldenburg, reports Lt. Don Smith, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred sometime between Sept. 20, at 10 p.m., when the restaurant closed, and 7 a.m. Sept. 21. When the bookkeeper came in to make the deposits Monday morning, she found the safe missing, the officer notes.

“We did locate the safe behind the building .... somebody pried it open and took all the money.”

Smith indicates, “There was no visible evidence of the place being broken into .... I think someone was hidden inside the building after closing .... (the suspect) made an exit through the back door.”

The police have no leads at this time, but “the safe was taken to the Batesville Police Department ..... Their forensic guy is trying to get some fingerprints.”

Smith adds, “This happens sometimes .... Businesses need to check and make sure everyone is out of building” before leaving for the evening.

He encourages the public to be observant. “If anything looks unusual or strange at their property or a neighboring property, call the local authorities.”

Marshal Scott Barnhorst, Oldenburg Police Department, agrees and emphasizes if anyone has information about this case to contact the OPD at 934-3556 or FCSO at 800-533-4392. They can remain anonymous.
