Sunman Town Council members agreed July 16 to go forward with needed improvements at Sunman Community Park and town hall.

“In April, I applied to the Rising Sun Regional Foundation for a $50,000 grant for park improvements (electrical upgrades, lighting and paving) .... and for the first time since we’ve been applying, we were turned down” because there wasn’t money available, reported clerk-treasurer Kris Schneider.

“They encouraged me to apply again .... (but) the biggest (immediate) need is for the lighting for the wine festival” in September. Members agreed to take $13,430 from the Cumulative Capital Development Fund to have Ludwig Contracting Inc., Cedar Grove, install the lighting.

In the past, members have discussed installing security cameras at the park. Dan Eckstein, street and park manager, revealed, “I got an updated bid from Enhanced Telecommunications Corp., and the price was half of the original .... They came across some used equipment.”

He added, “I know right now we don’t have a problem (with vandalism), but in the future we might.” Members decided to let ETC install them for $1,333.

Eckstein also noted, “Last month, we talked about sealing the (town hall) parking lot .... I’ve gotten four bids .... I think in time we need to do it.” Members accepted the low bid of $2,440 from Wingham Paving, Madison.
