Rick Johnson told Sunman Town Council members March 19 that he is buying West Vue Mobile Home Park on Western Avenue, and "we’re going to clean it up …. (and) get rid of all the trash."

Johnson, who also owns a trailer court in Osgood, revealed, "I talked to the state about kennels …. and we’re going to eliminate outside dogs …. (all canines) must stay inside." He also introduced Rob Rydner, who will manage the facility.

Member John Campbell commented, "We sure are glad you’re going to clean it up," but he encouraged the owner to check the water and sewer lines in the trailer court because there is a "history of broken lines all through there."

Utility superintendent Carl Bruns noted that there has been a problem with residents pouring grease down their garbage disposals. Wastewater operator Terry Knueven explained, "As the grease cools down …. It builds up in the (sewer) lines … (and) gradually creates blockages."

Roger Lang, Sunman, added, "It’s sort of like plaque and cholesterol in your body building up in your veins …. It clogs them up."

Knueven and Bruns suggested sending a letter to citizens explaining the grease situation so they understand what the problem is and how it can be prevented. Members will look into this.

Town Marshal Bill Dramann expressed his appreciation to the Ripley County Community Foundation for a $3,200 grant to the Sunman Police Department.

This money allowed them to purchase two radar units, three fingerprint kits and three lockout tool kits.
