Ripley County Commissioners agreed March 10 to update the public address system for the courthouse.
The $3,369 bid from Designed Sound & Video, Greensburg, will include a speaker horn that would be permanently mounted on the east side of the building.
Technology director Kelly Vollet said there is old equipment in her department that can be sold and asked the trio to consider having an online auction.
She said it wouldn’t cost them anything to do this. Prospective bidders would go to RipleyCounty.com and proceed to an auction link from the front page.
There will be no shipping charges because “items must be picked up .... (and) paid for within a week of the closing of the auction,” Vollet added.
Member Chuck Folz remarked, “Let’s try it,” and the other two commissioners agreed.
Coroner Ron Buchanan asked the group about purchasing a cot for $1,800, plus $300 for the cover. Members suggested talking to Scott Huffman, the county’s Emergency Medical Services director, to get a better price.
However, Buchanan noted EMS has cots that are operated by two or more individuals. “We have to have a cot that one person can operate .... (because) when we go to the morgue in Cincinnati, they don’t help us.”
President Bob Reiners told him to compile a list of items he needs and ask the council for the money.
Buchanan said his office number is 812-621-2309.
Reiners thanked highway crew workers for their dedication during the latest snowstorm. “They don’t get a whole lot of credit .... (but) they worked Saturday and Sunday, and they did a tremendous job.”
