Yes or no for new sewers?

Dear editor,

At one time, the Indians were pushed off the land that they developed by people who wanted to build cities. Now the cities are pushing farmers off their land to put in city sewers.

Adams Township residents do not want sewers on their farmland. There are so many pipes and wires in our road ditches now that the creeks cannot take the water when we get a heavy rain. This is what is causing flash floods. The only reason Sunman doesn’t have flash floods is the elevation. The Sunman sewage plant cannot pipe sewage uphill to a sewage treatment plant and then run it downhill over our farms and into our wells. All the drinking water we have is below the ground under Sunman.

We all have working septic systems and do not need sewers on our farmland. If the Sunman Town Council is successful in establishing the Sunman Regional Sewer District, both Sunman and Milan will become ghost towns. No one willl pass Interstate 74 strip malls to drive to town with the cost of gas.

This is America, and we do not want to be forced by a few thoughtless people to put in sewers on our farmland. Hundreds of concerned citizens have signed a petition to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management commissioner in opposition of this sewer.

You can still call or write the commissioner and Lynne Newlon, IDEM regional water and sewer district coordinator, at 100 N. Senate Ave., IGCN 1255, Indianapolis, IN 46204-2251.

Donna McCool, Sunman
