Many finish challenge

Dear Editor,

On Jan. 7, 68 Southeastern Indiana YMCA members embarked on a journey to bike, walk, run or do the elliptical trainer for a minimum of five miles per week. For each five miles, a participant’s name was placed in a drawing. It was a lot of fun to watch people who normally only completed two miles a week try and increase their routine.

Our bodies sometimes can get stuck in a rut when exercising and when you alternate your routine, it can kick-start your metabolism.

The Valentine’s Day Challenge ended Feb. 10 with all 68 members totaling a distance of 3,860.1 miles. Mike Rathburn won the prize for most miles with an amazing total of 323.9. He stated there were even some he forgot to write down! The grand prize of a facial was generously donated by Strands and was won by Jessica Seaver. Wolf Theaters in Greensburg was kind enough to donate 10 movie passes to our other winners.

I would like to thank our sponsors for donating the prizes and our members for diligently tracking their distance for these last few weeks.

Other winners included Stacy Schwarte, Angie Moster, Ellen Urban and Rita Negangard.

Dr. Kinni Piche

Southeastern Indiana YMCA

wellness director
