Young sparks Lady Eagles

It did not take long for the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles to establish the tempo and the lead Wednesday night at Milan High School.

The Lady Eagles made short work of the South Ripley Lady Raiders to advance to the finals of the Ripley County basketball tournament.

Kiersten Young scored a game high 15 points to lead the Lady Eagles to a 51-28 victory over South Ripley.

Young scored 10 first quarter points to spark a 17-7 run and give the Lady Eagles a comfortable lead.

The JCD lead continued to grow in the second quarter. Another 17 point effort extended the margin to 19 points, 34-15, by halftime.

The Lady Raiders continued to struggle offensively in the third quarter. The Lady Eagles held them to four points as the difference grew to 45-19.

Young was the only player to score in double figures for coach Scott Smith, but there were six others who broke into the scoring column. Kristen Hicks was second on the team with nine points followed by Valorie Wagner with seven. Carissa Simon and Kaylin Ploeger each added six points.

South Ripley was led in scoring by Erica Ester with seven points and Kellie Collier with six.

The Lady Eagles will play Batesville in the championship game Friday night, while the Lady Raiders will play Milan in the consolation round.
