The Batesville High School boys basketball team captured the sectional title, defeating South Ripley 75-48.

Batesville Beautification League members were granted permission by city council members to locate a gazebo in the village square downtown.

The sixth annual Kiwanis Merchant-Consumer Show was held at BHS.

50 years ago

The annual Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the Batesville Businesses and Professional Association, was held. Children assembled at the Memorial Building and then formed a parade to march to Liberty Park. They were escorted by the police department, civil defense department and BHS band. In addition to many eggs that were found, the youngsters also received chocolate eggs and candy rabbits.

At Kirschner’s Department Store, children’s Easter shoes were $2.99 and up; men’s suits, $34.88; sport coats, $19.88; and infants’ and children’s dresses, $1.99-$3.99.

75 years ago

An ad for Dr. M.J. Pfeiffer, an optometrist, asked, “Madam! Is your husband a grouch? He may need glasses. Eyestrain frequently is the root of chronic irritability. It may be the reason for your husband’s ‘nerves’ … his short temper. The sad part is that he can’t help himself because he doesn’t know what’s wrong. Induce him to have his eyes tested this week!”

The Osgood Cowboys won the sectional tourney by upsetting the Batesville Bulldogs.

St. Peter’s Catholic Church members dedicated their new auditorium and parish hall. All labor, except bricklaying and electrical work, was completed by parish members.

The Budget Shop had spring dresses for $1.98-$3.98.
