Even though he is only 14, Ryan Kent Jr., Batesville, is making a name for himself as a radio show host for “Sportz-Addix.”
It is “a general sports and sport cards and memorabilia” online show found at www.freedomizerradio.com. He explains, “We cover any sport or any new news pertaining to things going on in the sports world .... Our producer, Jerry Chiles, lives in Las Vegas. He takes care of things in the West and Midwest, and I handle things here in the East and South,” says the Batesville High School freshman.
The teen recently beat out 350 entrants to win a contest sponsored by the Positive Rolemodels Outreach youth baseball program (www.proyouthbaseballprogram.com) for the Best Young Business Idea in Television, Radio and Journalism. He spoke at the organization’s Children’s Benefit Dinner in Las Vegas.
“It was a very humbling experience. The people I was able to meet and the event were fun, and it was an honor to be a part of it .... I was nominated by my radio producer ... and was accepted and asked to speak at the dinner.”
The topic of my speech: Never giving up, not forgetting where you came from and staying humble.
What I enjoy about “SportzAddix”: I really like that I can express my opinion in my own way and see how everyone gives their own opinion and seeing topics from all viewpoints.
Challenges: Trying to stop talking about sports. Sometimes it’s hard to talk about a subject I don’t know a lot about, but then I research and prep for what we’ll talk about that week.
Current projects: Working on our new Web site, putting together our network and some other different things we’re working on. It’s exciting, for sure.
My greatest accomplishment: Probably doing the radio show, getting to meet famous athletes and interview them, traveling around and having tons of fun.
