The Batesville High School Lady Bulldogs basketball team became the first BHS team to finish its regular season undefeated.

Lee Hamilton announced his candidacy for 9th District representative. He stressed that the 14-county district “needs a respected voice in Congress – a congressman who will be constructive in his approach to the problems of the district and the county.”
Due to previous commitments that conflicted with his duties as Batesville building commissioner, A.E. Meyers resigned from the position. He was replaced by Wilfred Bedel.
“McLintock,” starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara, was shown at the Gibson Theatre.

One of the latest types of mobile shockproof X-ray units was installed at Margaret Mary Hospital. It made a service available to the community that was found only in the larger hospitals. The equipment was designed to aid physicians in the setting of fractures in the operating and emergency rooms. It was made possible through a generous donation to the hospital.
A&P Food Stores were selling a 10-pound bag of sugar for 49 cents, 24-pound bag of flour for 45 cents, two large cans of peaches for 27 cents and a 4-pound carton of lard for 33 cents.
Fred Diefenbach, Sunman, was recognized as the Indiana Champion Tomato Grower during the Sons of the Soil annual meeting at Purdue University.
BHS seniors explored how a bill becomes a law. The English literature class studied the poems of some of the great English poets, including Burns, Gray and Lindsay. Juniors learned about Caesar’s war with the Helvetians. Biology students worked on the influence of living organisms. Sophomore Latin class members translated English sentences into Latin. Freshmen made their first garments, pajamas, in home economics.
The new rates for the Hoosier Public Utility Co. per month per kilowatt hour were: first 30 kilowatt hours, 6 cents; next 30 kilowatt hours, 4.5 cents; next 14 kilowatt hours, 2.5 cents; and all additional kilowatt hours, 1.7 cents.
