Small Business Person of the Year Billie Chisman owns On the Spot Catering, Columbus, nominated by Cindy Frey, Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce. The Bartholomew County native was an Indiana Guard Reserve sergeant from 2006-13, a national emergency response team member and, recently, Accredited National Women’s Business Owners Association member. To date, Chisman is the proprietor of five businesses, all located on Camp Atterbury, where she and her staff have served over 120,000 soldiers mobilizing to Iraq and Afghanistan. The news release notes, “She believes that the success and backbone of her operations are her staff and sees her position as one of job creation, mentoring and advancing her staff to higher levels in their personal, career and community roles.”
Young Entrepreneurs of the Year are Stephan DeLorenzo and Zach Ricketts, owners of Digital Dreams Inc., Madison, nominated by Trevor Crafton, Madison Chamber of Commerce. The Jefferson County residents were selected for developing their entrepreneurial dream as high school sophomores and working out of DeLorenzo’s dad’s garage to develop the initiative into a thriving business.
FranNet Franchisee of the Year is Laura Dugan of Great Clips in Floyd and Clark counties, nominated by Thom Crimans, FranNet of MidAmerica. The owner of five Great Clips in those counties started her first salon in 1998 on State Street. Her salons have now grown to employ over 40 stylists. The newest, LaFollette Station in Floyds Knobs, was ranked 12th out of over 3,300 for new customer returns.
Financial Services Champion of the Year is Adrian Brown, director of business development at First Harrison Bank in Floyd and Clark counties, nominated by Kelsey Brown, Indiana University Southeast. The Salem native was selected for his outstanding commitment to assisting entrepreneurs. The Salem High School Technical Advisory Committee president also serves on the City of Salem Revolving Loan Committee and Washington County Economic Growth Partnership and is a director of the Salem Redevelopment Commission. Brown is also a Southeast ISBDC Advisory Board volunteer member, Risk It: Indiana judge and Washington County Community Foundation secretary.
