---- — East Indiana Area Health Education Center, Batesville, will offer up to nine $1,000 grants, says executive director Rhonda Savage. Eligible programs will demonstrate a need and ability to support the health work force in the nonprofit’s 14-county service area: Bartholomew, Dearborn, Decatur, Fayette, Franklin, Henry, Jennings, Jefferson, Ohio, Ripley, Rush, Switzerland, Union and Wayne counties.
Savage explains, “East Indiana AHEC, along with the Indiana AHEC network, works to ‘grow our own’ health care professionals for the future of health care in our rural region. Research shows that the people most likely to serve as health care providers in a community are either from that community or have trained in that community.”
Ideal grant applications will promote interest in health careers for local K-12 students, support local clinical training opportunities for health professions students or support continuing education for area health professionals.
The application deadline is Nov. 15. Awards will be announced Dec. 1. Applications are available on the organization’s Web site, www.eiahec.org.
