St. Andrews Health Campus, Batesville, residents enjoyed an evening outdoors full of great food and entertainment during the recent Back Home BarbecueDinner June 20. Liz Kellerman, community services representative, said, "This event was planned especially for the campus residents and featured a menu with tastes from the good ol’ days."
Picnic tables were lined with red-and-white checkered tablecloths, hay bales and mason jars, as residents enjoyed true Southern hospitality from the denim-and-boots-clad staff. Food was served family style and included barbecue chicken and steak along with an assortment of old-fashioned side dishes, such as green beans, corn on the cob, loaded mash potatoes and rhubarb pie.
One resident reported, "The barbecue dinner was a really fun theme to have during the summertime. The meal was great along with the employees dressed up as cowgirls."
Executive director Gwen Reverman said, "Our residents really enjoyed the special menu and decorations, and our staff had a wonderful time preparing for the event. We are already looking forward to our next themed dinner in September – Caribbean Night!”
The week leading up to the dinner featured programming and activities that tied in to the theme, including animal visits, backyard games in the courtyard and a barbecue cooking class.
