---- — The dream of owning and operating a full-time bakery is finally a reality for Jamie Speigle. Custom Sweets by Jamie, located at 506 Main St., Brookville, officially opened its doors June 1 with a Brookville/Franklin County Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting.
Realizing her passion and talent in high school, being artistic through icing became a hobby for Speigle. Beginning with decorated, iced sugar cookies, and then moving on to decorating her own children’s birthday cakes, she soon had friends and family requesting her to make cakes and cookies for them.
Specializing in custom orders, the bakery will feature some items on a daily basis, such as doughnuts, cookies and cupcakes, while rotating other items through to change things up from time to time. In addition, coffee, juices and soft drinks will be available. The entrepreneur hopes to be offering a daily lunch special in the near future and always welcomes any suggestions for menu options people would like to see offered.
The baker feels her biggest seller will probably be her decorative, iced sugar cookies. “I have not found one person who has not loved them, and I love making them. I enjoy seeing children’s faces light up when they get to see their custom made order. It makes it all worthwhile to be doing something I love, and to see people love what I do.”
Business hours are Wednesdays-Fridays from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Saturdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Sundays from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Speigle’s work can be viewed at www.CustomSweetsbyJamie.com or on her Custom Sweets by Jamie Facebook page.
