The Cellular Connection, Batesville, donated supply packs valued at $80 each filled with glue, pencils, pens, markers, erasers, paper, tissue boxes and other items Feb. 23 to 10 local teachers: Helena Benjamin, Amanda Biltz, Chelsea Eckstein, Tricia Glaub, Amanda Kurtz, Taira Lynch, Carrie McCune, Brenda Peters, Katy Tincher and Justin Tucker.
The Cellular Connection, the largest Verizon premium wireless retailer in the U.S., in a joint effort with its customers, is giving school supply packs to 3,500 teachers at 350 participating TCC stores across the country through its Teachers Rock Supply Giveaway, according to a news release.
Residents in the community of each participating store also joined the cause by rounding their purchases up to the nearest dollar with the difference going directly toward the giveaway. If the participating store raised more than $500 through customer contributions, additional supplies for the teachers are purchased.
Scott Moorehead, TCC president and CEO, reported, “Every year, teachers spend an average of $1.3 billion of their own money on school supplies, and on top of that, budget cuts continue to lead to less support for our teachers. At TCC, we believe teachers deserve more. We believe that teachers rock. This is one more way we are giving back through our Culture of Good, and we’re proud to be able to do it.”
This giveaway is taking place six months after TCC’s donation of 60,000 backpacks full of school supplies to children across the U.S. through its School Rocks Backpack Giveaway initiative.
The company was recently ranked No. 79 in the second annual Inc. Hire Power Awards, recognizing private businesses that have generated the most jobs during the past 18 months.
The listing comes on the heels of TCC also being recognized by Inc. as one of America’s fastest-growing private companies for the fourth consecutive year.
