BATESVILLE — Batesville Economic Development Commission members are moving forward with marketing strategies to lure businesses to the area.
“We’re working very closely with the Southeast Indiana Growth Alliance, a regional group we formed with Ripley, Ohio, Dearborn, Franklin and Switzerland counties,” reported Mayor Rick Fledderman Feb. 10.
“We’re pulling together a strategic plan for our area .... (and) we’re being encouraged to promote ourselves regionally.”
In addition, the “I-74 Business Corridor group is looking at doing some labor market studies. We have done one. This is an added tool we have to give to people when they want to talk about coming to Batesville,” he pointed out.
That partnership consists of Batesville plus Ripley, Franklin, Dearborn, Decatur, Rush and Shelby counties.
“We continue to get prospects and work with commercial site developers in attracting businesses to the community, but most of the leads we get relate to an existing building.”
Fledderman also emphasized, “We’re trying to step up our marketing,” and showed members brochures that will be sent to prospective businesses interested in coming to the city.
“We’re getting these translated into Chinese and Japanese. We did make contact with Hiromi Hemuki, Indiana’s Japanese contact, who spent time with us in Japan. He came back with some proposals to assist with our marketing and to help us get this information out to Japanese companies who are looking at coming to the United States.”
Member Bill Flannery asked, “Is there any thought of putting it (marketing information) on the Web site in different languages?”
The mayor responded, “I think once we get things translated, we should be able to get it on there.”
Member Gene Lambert wondered, “Where are you going on the spec building?”
Fledderman reported, “I think we need to get together and have some discussion on that.”
