BHS track teams win at home

It was not an ideal night for a track and field meet. The looming bad weather pressed the pace of the meet, but it did not keep it from completion.

Batesville played host to North Decatur, Jac-Cen-Del and Hauser.

The Lady Bulldogs were easy winners with a score of 130.5. Jac-Cen-Del was second with 44 points, followed by Hauser (32.5) and North Decatur (31).

Batesville had a final score of 123 to win the boys portion of the meet. North Decatur (49) placed second, while Hauser (39) and Jac-Cen-Del (20) rounded out the field.

First place finishers for the Lady Bulldogs were Kim Tidman (high jump and long jump), Lexi Hatcher (pole vault), Alex Wirth (pole vault), Ginny Westerfeld (100 and 200m dash), Grace Yeaton (1600m run), Audrey Hall (400m dash) and Kelsey Gausman (800m run).

Also placing first for the girls were all three relay teams.

Members of the 4 x 100-meter team were Tidman, Ginny Westerfeld, Sophie Meadows, Michaela Westerfeld. Tidman, Hall, Gausman and Goldsmith won the 4 x 400, while Sarah Poltrack, Maria Wessel, Molly Weigel and Yeaton placed first in the 4 x 800.

The Bulldogs were led by first place finishers Tom Chaffee (high jump), Peter Heil (long jump and 110m hurdles), Ben Westerfeld (pole vault), Tanner Ayette (100m dash), Garrett Yorn (1600m run and 400m dash), Cole Nuhring (800m run), Jacob Koehne (200m dash) and Caleb Moster (3200m run).

Batesville swept the three relay events.

The 4 x 100m relay team of Michael Tunny, Zach Mears, Koehne and Ayette raced to victory. Nathan Longstreth, John Moody, Tunny and Heil teamed up to win the 4 x 400. The 4 x 800 relay winners were Moster, Nuhring, Connor Bell and Yorn.

Second place finishers for Batesville included Samantha Heidlage (shot put), Cassie Reverman (discus), Meadows (100m dash), Sarah Poltrack (1600m run), Clare Bruns (300m Hurdles), Michaela Westerfeld (200m dash), Robert Strobel (pole vault), Matt Dennis (110m and 300m hurdles), Wessel (3200m run), Goldsmith (high jump) and Nuhring (400m dash).
