Large Item Pickup

On March 9, Batesville offers curbside pickup of large items from residents’ homes starting at 5 a.m. Info: 933-6100.

Toy and Clothing Sale

The Sunman Tiger People at Work for Students will host  a children’s toy and clothing sale March 9, 8 a.m.-noon, Sunman Elementary School.

Youth Turkey Seminar

The free 2013 Youth Wild Turkey Seminar is March 9, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Laughery Valley Fish and Game clubhouse, 3.8 miles south of U.S. 50 near Elrod on Friendship Road. To register: Jim Hankins, 812-654-2339 or probassman7@hotmail.com.

Firearm Safety Class

A basic firearm safety class for beginners is March 9, 9 a.m.-noon, National Muzzleloading Rifle Association education building, Friendship. Cost: $65. RSVP: 812-871-5803 or third_eye@etczone.com.

Used Book Sale

The Friends of Batesville Memorial Public Library will have their used book and media sale March 9, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., library annex. The $2 per bag sale starts at 3 p.m. Proceeds help pay for library materials and programs.

OFC Program

Women’s Day: Women of Beauty will be presented March 9, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Oldenburg Franciscan Center. Cost: $45, includes lunch. Info/RSVP: 933-6437 or center@oldenburgosf.com.

4-H Beef Weigh-in

The Franklin County 4-H Beef ID and Weigh-in is March 9, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 4-H fairgrounds cattle barn, Brookville. Info: 765-647-3511.

Chicken Dinner

Oldenburg Academy Students In Sports will have a chicken dinner March 9, 4-7 p.m., Batesville Knights of Columbus hall. Cost: adults, $10; children 3-12, $6; whole chicken carryout, $11; dinner carryout, $10.

Spring Dinner

The Batesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3183 Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its annual spring dinner March 9, 4:30-7:30 p.m., post home. Pork loin and meatloaf dinners served. Carryouts available.

Steak Fry and Dance

Prell-Bland American Legion Post 271 will host a steak fry and dance March 9. Social hour, 6-7 p.m. Cost: $15. Info: John Baumer, 812-216-7710.

Brookville Concert

A free concert March 9, 6:30 p.m., The Upper Room, 124 E. 6th St., Brookville, boasts three musical acts.

“The Beverly Hillbillies”

The Oldenburg Academy Drama Club will present “The Beverly Hillbillies” March 9, 7 p.m., OA auditorium. Cost: adults, $7; students/children, $5.

“The Legend of Johnny Cash”

“The Legend of Johnny Cash,” starring Philip Bauer and presented by the Rural Alliance for the Arts, is March 9, 8 p.m., Batesville High School auditorium. To purchase reserved-seat tickets ($20 for preferred seating, $16 for adults, $10 for students, $2 discounts for RAA members): 933-0355. Tickets also will be available at the door.  

Gift Certificate Sale

The Batesville Knights of St. John Commandery 243 Mission Team will be selling Five Oaks Lawn and Garden gift certificates through May 20. They are available from team members, at Geis Electronics or Curves or by calling Mary Jo Wuestefeld at 934-3822. All proceeds help fund 30 youth and adults going to Parma, Ohio, in June to help the needy.
