School Board Candidates

July 25 is the first day for citizens to submit information to be a school board candidate for the Nov. 6 election. Candidates for South Ripley, Batesville, Milan and Jac-Cen-Del community school districts will file in the Ripley County clerk’s office, Versailles. Info: 812-689-6115. Candidates for the Franklin County Community School Corp. and Union County/College Corner Joint School District will file in the Franklin County clerk’s office.  Info: 765-647-5111, Ext. 3. The deadline is Aug. 24, noon.

Bookstore Hours

Three schools will have  bookstore hours July 25-26, noon-7 p.m.; and July 27, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Locations: Batesville Primary School, cafeteria; Batesville Intermediate School, old media center; and Batesville Middle School, commons.

Library Happenings

On July 26, the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library will sponsor Make and Take Craft – Back to School; and Teen Thursday – Water and Shaving Cream Extravaganza, 1 p.m. Info: 812-663-2826.

OFC Program

The “Journey of the Universe” movie screening will be presented July 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Oldenburg Franciscan Center. Cost: $10. Also July 26. Info and reservations: 933-6437 or center@oldenburgosf. com.

Travel Slide Show

Batesville native Gary Wintz will offer a free travel slide show  July 26, 7-8:30 p.m.,  Batesville Memorial Public Library. He has traveled to over 200 countries and will share photos from Burma, Laos, Iran, Bhutan, Antarctica and beyond.   Author/editor Father Jack Wintz, OFM, will be available for book signings at intermission.

Used Book Sale

Church on the Rock will host its annual used book sale July 26-27, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and July 28, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Safe Passage. Info: 934-5192.

Eureka Band

Concert

The third of four Batesville Eureka Band concerts is July 27, 8 p.m., Liberty Park Bandstand. Also Aug. 3.

“Snow White”

The Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre production of “Snow White,” sponsored by the Rural Alliance for the Arts, is July 27, 7 p.m. and July 28, 2 p.m., Batesville High School auditorium. General admission tickets are $5. Info: 933-0355.
