Wednesday, Jan. 8

Persons interested in running for offices in the May 6 primary can begin filing for candidacy Jan. 8. The deadline is Feb. 7, noon. Info: Ripley County Clerk’s Office, Versailles, 812-689-6115 (hours are weekdays, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.); Franklin County Clerk’s Office, Brookville, 765-647-5111 (hours are weekdays, 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.).

Interested persons are welcome to attend the Columbus Star Quilters’ Guild meeting Jan. 8, 9:30 a.m., Masonic Lodge, 4131 Rocky Ford Road. Member Jamie Schantz, Batesville, will hold a trunk show to display many of her quilts, including the 2012 Viewers’ Quilt Award. Please bring a show-and-tell to share. Registration forms for Batesville High School’s spring driver education program will be available in the main office beginning Jan. 6. They are due by Jan. 17, and are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. A mandatory meeting for all students and parents is Jan. 22, 7 p.m., BHS cafeteria.

Thursday, Jan. 9

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3183 Ladies Auxiliary will meet Jan. 9, 7 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 11

The Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library will host Geocaching in Decatur County Cemeteries Jan. 11, 11 a.m. Info: 812-663-2826.

The Southeast Indiana Health Center Draw Down Fundraiser with chances to win $3,000 is Jan. 11, 3 p.m. drawing starts, 5-7 p.m. dinner (no carryouts), Batesville Knights of Columbus Hall. The draw down, including a meal and draft beer, costs $20 per ticket and is presented by the Ripley County Community Foundation. Info: Marcy Wurtz, 934-5242.
